About Universities of Ghana Overseas Office (UGOOUK)

The University of Ghana's Overseas Office was established in 1948 to provide administrative support to the university institutions in Ghana. The Universities of Ghana's overseas Office in UK and Ireland (UGOOUK) main focus is to promote the Ghana Universities global standing, fostering international collaborations, and attracting international students and researchers’ lecturers on sabbatical leave.


Why we exist

There have been significant investments in expanding the number of places available to all who seek education at our publicly funded Universities in Ghana. On our various campuses are students from all over the world studying various courses in Medicine, Law, Business, Administration/Management, Mining, Mechanical, Electronics, Computer/ICT, engineering, Medicine/Pharmacy, Education, Sciences, Anthropology, Performing Arts, African studies, to name but a few. These unique courses have special appeal to international students globally. Today, our campuses are a melting pot of students from all races. The unique locations of our universities in Ghana give international students insight into the rich culture of Ghana.

About UGOOUK

What we do
The functions of our London office as regulated by Ghana Tertiary Education Council (GTEC) and (Vice Chancellors, Ghana (VCG) are interactive and revolving. We represent and transact overseas business on behalf of sixteen (16) Traditional Public Universities in Ghana to:

  • Constantly seeking new opportunities for collaborations and promoting the public Universities in the global world through seminars, conferences and Universities fairs.
  • Vigorously pursuing policies in sustaining to establish links through interactions and education fairs.
  • Presentations and appeals to UK organisations and institutions for donations of books/equipment to our Universities in Ghana.
  • Consulting academic/professional panels to interview prospective candidates for appointments to senior management positions in our universities.
  • Sourcing and procurement of teaching and research materials/equipment for our universities subject to a thorough due diligence being carried out.
  • Promoting and supporting where necessary, alumni activities in the UK.
  • Develop partnerships and networks, regionally and globally in consultation with our principal’s institutional strategy and criteria for partner selection.
  • Assists with recruiting staff for University of Ghana.
  • Handles travel arrangements for university personnel.
  • Facilitates study abroad opportunities for students.
  • Develop efficient and sustainable membership of network that would shape our universities’ reputation and market profile internationally.
  • Implement policies that attract staff with international experience including visiting lecturers and professors.
  • External Examiners, moderators, visiting personnel including professors.
  • Providing references for Ghanaian students in diaspora in respect of further studies and job opportunities – social work, teaching, engineering, medicine etc.
  • Arrangement for entry permits, visas, passages etc, for new appointees and foreign students admitted to various institutions in Ghana.
  • Liaise/monitor the academic progress of postgraduate study fellows/students.

Our Strategies

Networking and Outreach through partnerships and collaboration. We support international recruitment of students and staff, attracting top talent while navigating market and immigration challenges. We focus on fundraising and resource mobilization to help institutions secure necessary funding to achieve their goals. Additionally, we strengthen branding efforts to build trust and credibility with members, stakeholders, associates and International Student Recruitment, Public Relations and Branding

Overseas Activities

Liaison with counterpart institutions and universities in the UK, USA, France, Germany, Australia and Asia. We support various overseas activities, including academic collaborations, research projects, and international summer programs with a range of subjects and excursions. Additionally we organize events and webinars for international students and hosts overseas visitors.
